Help Scout alternatives: a practical comparison worksheet
By Flynn Traeger · Sources checked November 5, 2026
Compare Help Scout, Intercom, and Front around your support workflow, switching costs, and AI budget.
Define the reason to change
Write down the problem before making a shortlist. Is it agent work, missing workflows, reporting, administration, or cost?
If the problem has no measurable effect, a migration may add effort without improving service. Set a pass condition first.
Three options to evaluate
| Option | Question for your evaluation |
|---|---|
| Keep Help Scout and evaluate Envoy | Can the current setup meet the target with less migration effort? |
| Evaluate Intercom and Fin | Does the proposed deployment solve the required workflow at an acceptable total cost? |
| Evaluate Front and Autopilot | Do the demonstrated automation and human handoffs fit the way your team works? |
These are options to investigate, rather than a ranking or performance endorsement.
Separate the add-on from the platform
Help Scout publishes Envoy at $0.75 per resolution. Include the applicable platform, seats, and extras when checking the budget.
A cheaper AI unit alone does not justify moving. A more expensive platform may still reduce work on your particular request mix.
Run a migration rehearsal
Choose one shared inbox, a small set of knowledge articles, and a representative request sample. Use a test environment where available.
Check that message history, ownership, tags, and knowledge links survive the process. List manual cleanup tasks and name their owners.
Ask what happens to open requests during the switch. Document a rollback path before changing the live support flow.
Compare the full first-year cost
Add recurring fees, expected usage, setup effort, migration effort, and any overlapping subscriptions during the switch.
Keep your expected benefit separate. Record whether it is measured in your test, quoted by the vendor, or only assumed.
Our suggested choice: keep the option that passes your service requirements with the lowest defensible first-year cost.
